This Christmas weekend is full of free meal events, for anyone who may be alone or away from family.
Operation Big Turkey is offering dinners on Christmas Eve at the following locations:
- Carlington Rec Centre, 1520 Caldwell Avenue, from 3:30 – 5:30 pm
- Overbrook Community Centre, 33 Quill Street, from 2 – 4 pm
- Ron Kolbus-Lakeside Centre, 102 Greenview Avenue, from 3:30 – 6 pm
- Jack Purcell Rec Centre, 320 Jack Purcell Lane, from 3:30 – 6:30 pm
- Albion-Heatherington Rec Centre, 1560 Heatherington Road, from 3 – 5 pm
On Christmas Day, the Carleton Tavern is offering up a meal between 11 am and 3 pm. 223 Armstrong Street. The Heart and Crown at 67 Clarence Street is welcoming everyone between 11 am and 4 pm. Doors open at Knox Presbyterian Church, 120 Lisgar Street, at 1 pm. Dinner is served between 2pm and 4 pm. The Shepherds of Good Hope’s annual meal is served at 11:30 am at their 233 Murray Street location. The Ottawa Freedom Centre serves up Christmas dinner at 5 pm. 265 Montreal Road.
The Gift of Lights continues at Wesley Clover Parks. This display is a family-friendly 2 kilometre drive-thru holiday light display featuring a 100 foot light tunnel at the exit, and over 30 static and animated light displays! This new family tradition is presented by MAJIC 100 FM and raising funds in support of the Sens Foundation. 5 - 10 pm.
If you’re in need of a last-minute Christmas idea, the FANTASEA Christmas Craft Fair is on at the Bronson Centre, on Friday, December 23 from noon to 5 pm. Find various types of jewelry, woolen & crocheted items, gourmet beer nuts, art cards, Christmas decorations, art, beaded items, scarves & blankets, organic soy products, Arbonne products, and many more for sale. Rideau Room #110, 211 Bronson Avenue.
Of course, Chanukah also begins this weekend. The third annual Chanukah at City Hall celebration takes place Saturday, from 7 - 8 pm. Come out and celebrate Chanukah in grand style with the tallest Menorah in Ottawa, featuring local dignitaries, Sufganiyot/doughnuts and hot latkes, live Jewish music, a special Chanukah game show+raffle and skating at City Hall.
On Sunday, Ottawa Torah Centre Chabad is hosting Latkes & Lattes from 11 am - 1 pm. Enjoy a Chanukah brunch in a warm atmosphere. A great social event for all ages. Enjoy a delicious latke while sipping on your favourite latte. Activities for the children. 111 Lamplighters Drive.
