Federal Veterans Affairs Minister Seamus O'Regan says he is healthy enough to attend the National Remembrance Day ceremony Saturday.
The Newfoundland and Labrador Liberal MP underwent emergency gastrointestinal surgery last week after not feeling well.
In a statement O'Regan says his doctors have agreed he can participate in the ceremony at the National War Memorial, but he will have to return to the hospital afterward for a few more days of observation.
"I am starting to feel better and expect to make a full recovery," O'Regan said. "I would like to thank everyone who sent kind words and best wishes to me and my family over the past ten days. Your messages of support have made this much easier. I would also like to thank the nurses, doctors, and staff at the Ottawa Civic Hospital for their professionalism and empathy."
O'Regan's medical condition was described as "non-life-threatening" when he was admitted to hospital, and doctors were positive he would be able to participate in Remembrance Day. In his statement, however, he does say he must refrain from flying until December, meaning he will not be able to visit constituents in Newfoundland and Labrador during the week-long break MPs have next week.
"Those who know me well know I find this particularly hard, but it is a vital part of my recovery," he said.
