Gatineau Police say the deaths of two people, found in an apartment on Begin Monday afternoon, are not criminal in nature.
Gatineau police spokesperson Andree East said the result was determined based on evidence found at the scene combined with autopsy results.
However, the cause of death has yet to be determined, and Gatineau Police are reaching out to the forensic science laboratory in Montreal for further analysis.
"It's hard to say how much time this is going to take," said East. "There is no typical deadline for those kind of cases. It could take weeks or even months, so we will have to be patient."
The bodies -- those of a woman about 20 years of age and a man in his 30s -- were found around 4:00 p.m. Monday, alongside a three-year-old boy, who was alive.
East said boy is healthy, and being cared for by child protection services. Police are now in the process of finding a family member to help care for him.
She added they won't be releasing the names of the two people, nor their relationship to the boy - at least for the time being.
