There's a shortage of outdoor rinks in Ottawa this season - some of the closings due to lack of volunteers. The city says it has closed seven rinks this winter, but one of them is going to be back up and running in no time.
Darrell Bartraw, the Vice President of the West Barrhaven Community Association, said the city made the deicision to close his community's rink at Ken Ross Park after the previous volunteer groundskeeper called it quits.
Upon hearing the news, Glenn van Gulik of the Salvation Army was motivated to get a team together and save the rink from closing. He announced this morning on CFRA's The Newsfeed that their organization would be manning the rink at Ken Ross Park this year.
They currently have a crew on standby; putting up the boards is all that's left to do before the flood begins.
