Police officer who admitted to racially charged comments demoted for three months

Sergeant Chris Hrnchiar will spend three months on a Constables salary and attend sensitivity training as punishment for two counts of discreditable conduct.

An Ottawa Police officer who made racially insensitive online comments in relation to artist Annie Pootoogook's death has been temporarily demoted.

Sergeant Chris Hrnchiar will spend three months on a Constable's salary and attend sensitivity training as punishment for two counts of discreditable conduct.

He pleaded guilty to the disciplinary charges last month.

A comment on an Ottawa Citizen article about Pootoogook from the officer's Facebook account stated "much of the Aboriginal population in Canada is just satisfied being alcohol or drug abusers."

The artist's body was found in the Rideau River on September 19th.
