Ottawa Police Officer charged for racialized online comments

The Police Officer who made racialized comments on a story about Inuk artist Annie Pootoogook has been charged.

Racially charged comments made from an Ottawa Police officer on an article about Inuk artist Annie Pootoogook have resulted in the officer being charged. 

Sergeant Chris Hrnchiar has been charged with 2 charges of discreditable conduct under the Police Services Act. 

Hrnchiar's comments sparked outrage among the first nation's community.

Ottawa Police Chief Charles Bordeleau responded to the comments, saying, 

"They're inappropriate, they're wrong, they have racial undertones and they don't reflect the values of the Ottawa Police Service," 

The charges will be heard on November 1st.
