An Ottawa Police officer who made racially insensitive online comments in relation to Annie Pootoogook's death has pleaded guilty to two counts of discreditable conduct.
Both the service and defense are calling for a three month demotion for Sergeant Chris Hrnchiar along with sensitivity training as punishment.
A decision won't be made until Dec. 7.
Pootoogook's body was found in the Rideau River on Sept. 19 _ a death that police did not at first treat as suspicious.
Several days later, racially charged comments on an Ottawa Citizen article suggested Pootoogook's death ought not to be linked to the phonomenon of missing and murdered indigenous women across Canada.
At a hearing today, Hrnchiar apologized for the remarks.
