A dramatic end to a week of unseasonable warmth in the Capital.
Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement calling for 10 to 15 cm of snow Sunday night into Monday.
This past week has seen temperatures as high as 10 degrees above the seasonal average, but by Sunday afternoon, the forecast high is expected to be only 2°C, which is slightly lower than the average.
The statement says, "A low pressure system sweeping across Ontario is expected to bring colder temperatures with rain changing to snow on Sunday. This snow could linger over eastern Ontario for a considerable amount of time bringing accumulating snow and impacting the Monday morning commute."
Meteorologist Geoff Coulson says the snow could stick around for a few days.
"I think any way you slice it, we are going to be looking at accumulating snow on the ground for the drive in on Monday morning," Coulson says. "Certainly weather conditions we haven't seen for the last few weeks. This is a really sharp adjustment from almost summer-like conditions into more fall-like weather."
It may even be slightly colder than normal next week, in fact. "As of Friday afternoon, our forecasts for next week are looking at daytime highs around the freezing mark, maybe plus 1," says Coulson. "The seasonal norm is plus 4."
"The advice I've been giving everybody, is to try to get outside today or tomorrow to enjoy the last of this warm and sunny weather. We are certainly looking at a longer stretch now, starting on Sunday, of more fall-like conditions to take us right to the end of November."
