A 26-year-old man is dead after a shooting on Shillington Avenue in the city's west end Sunday morning.
Paramedics say they were called to the scene just after 6 a.m. where the man, identified by police as Abdi Jama of Ottawa, had been suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Duty Insp. Sean McDade told reporters Sunday Jama had initially been dropped off at the Royal Ottawa Hospital.
"He was transported to the Royal Ottawa by an unknown person," he said. "The staff there performed immediate CPR and first aid until an ambulance arrived and then transported him to the trauma centre at the Ottawa Civic where he was treated and, unfortunately, succumbed to his injuries there."
Police say Jama was known to investigators.
This marks the city's second shooting death of the weekend. Early Saturday morning Jacob Thompson, 40, was shot and killed at what neighbours said was a party on Elmira Drive in the west end.
There've now been 13 homicides in the capital in 2016 and 47 shootings.
McDade says the increase in violence is disturbing.
"We've obviously seen an increase in gun violence. We're always concerned with the use of guns," he said. "There's a lot more guns being used in crimes these days and we're very concerned for the public's safety."
There are no suspects in custody in either shooting.
CORRECTION: An earlier version of this story said Jama was shot on Shillington Road, not Shillington Avenue.
