While he won't be here for the holidays, there are hopes Jonathan Pitre will be back in Ottawa soon.
Pitre, known as Ottawa's butterfly child, has been undergoing treatment in Minnesota to help with his blistering skin disease.
He tells CTV his skin is healing up much better than it has before -- but he's still in quite a bit of pain.
"Definitely my body is in better shape than it's been in a long, long time," he said. "Wounds that were just always there are now starting to scab and we've basically never seen that so it's very exciting for us.
His mother, Tina Boileau, says Jonathan has been infection free-for almost two weeks. She says once there are fewer complications, they'll be able to come home.
"The longest time (before) was 10 days out of the hospital," she tells CTV. "Now Monday will be two weeks, so this is the longest stretch he's been outside of the hospital . . . . So once he's infection free and things are more stable so somebody can look after him, hopefully then we can move back to Ottawa."
