An index measuring severe crime in Ottawa increased by ten percent to 51.3 in 2016.
This is according to data released by Statistics Canada today.
The agency says the bump is due to increases in homicide, breaking-and-entering and fraud.
Last month, Ottawa Police reported a near-six percent crime rate jump for 2016.
Gatineau's index rating increased by six percent to 56.7, despite a one percent drop in overall crime.
The national marker is 71.
The index is calculated by giving types of crimes an individual "weight." The more serious the crime, the higher the weight.
