Fire breaks out at south end Ottawa Hydro substation

Firefighters say the blaze was contained to a backup power source for office equipment.


Ottawa Fire says a fire broke out at an Ottawa Hydro sub-station in the south end of the capital late Thursday night.

Firefighters say they first received a call from a security guard at the station, located in the 3000-block of Albion Rd., just after 10:00 p.m.

The guard reported smoke coming from inside the office portion of the large industrial building. Firefighters declared a working fire upon their arrival.

The fire was quickly extinguished-- Firefighters say it had been contained to a backup power source for office equipment.

Crews remain on the scene ensuring its safety.

There's no word yet on the cause of the blaze or the cost of the damages.
