An Ethiopian woman and an Ethiopian man have taken the top honours at the Tamarack Ottawa Race Weekend's 10 K race.

The 10 K is the only International Association of Athletics Federations Gold Label 10 K event in Canada and one of only four of such races in the world.

24-year-old Leul Gebresilase came in first among the men with a time of 28:43.

26-year-old Netsanet Gudeta was the top woman with a time of 31:35.

Gudeta also won the Gender Competition prize. The women's professional field is given a 3 minute, 10 second head start over the men in the 10 K Gender Competition. When a woman crosses the finish line before a man, she wins the Gender Competition prize, which is worth $4000.

The top Canadians were 37-year-old Eric Gillis, of Guelph, who ran a 30:09 race and 29-year-old Rachel Cliff, of Vancouver, who posted a time of 33:35.
