Daniel Alfredsson has been denied a trip to the Hockey Hall of Fame on his first chance.
The former Ottawa Senators captain and all-time leading team scorer did not get enough votes to be inducted as part of the 2017 class.
The 18-member voting committee selected Teemu Selanne, Paul Kariya, Danielle Goyette, Mark Recchi and Dave Andreychuk to enter as players.
Alfredsson had 444 career goals and 713 assists in 1,246 regular season games over 18 seasons.
17 were spent in Ottawa
In the playoffs, Alfredsson was the first European-born captain to lead a team to the Stanley Cup Final.
His name will return to the Hall of Fame ballot next year.
