Councillor Stephen Blais is riding the bus all though the town and tweeting about it along the way.
Blais is catching buses from his Cumberland ward into the downtown core, in order to find out if everything is running as it should be.
The Transit Commission Chair says he heard peoples complaints about the changes to express routes,
“I have the route that’s near my house and so when I take the bus to work that’s normally the bus I take, and so I typically only get to see one or two routes. We have at least six in my ward that go downtown so we’re going to take a look at them over the next few weeks, just to get a sense of how it’s all going.”
He tweets a video before he gets on the bus, and after the route is finished. He says that’s to really give an idea of how it went.
“There was concern that, by reducing the price and by allowing everyone to get on it now, that there would be overcrowding on the bus, and so that the travel time would increase as a result. I can say that 35 and fourty minutes from the farthest parts of Orleans into the downtown is pretty good.”
He says he understands people may not walk to chat so early in the morning, but he encourages people along the way to discuss anything they need.
Blais is sticking to his own ward's bus routes, but says he'd like feedback from fellow councillors on their own routes as well.
