Steve Madely is one of the veterans of the Ottawa news scene, and puts a wealth of journalistic experience to work on behalf of his listeners. After a radio and television news-reporting career in diverse markets Steve and his wife Gayle settled in Ottawa in 1972 – when he was appointed News Director and Program Director of "The GO-14", CFGO Radio. He joined 580 CFRA radio in 1981 as News Director, then served as Station Manager, before returning to an active on-air role as the 9 am to Noon talk show host, and finally moving to his current 6 am to 9 am top-rated breakfast show in 1994. Steve is a regular guest commentator on CTV Newsnet, and daily on Ottawa’s A Channel Morning Show. Steve is past chairman of the Canadian Press Broadcast Advisory Committee, and a winner of the Radio Television News Director’s Association’s national award for excellence in reporting.

His list of community involvements is lengthy: Most recently voted Kanata Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year 2008, Steve currently serves on the campaign cabinet for the Ottawa Hospital Regional Cancer Centre, The Mayor’s Roundtable on Homelessness and Housing. He is honorary chairman of the Ottawa Rehabilitation Centre Gala, special advisor to the Bruyere Continuing Care Foundation, and co-host of the Ottawa Cancer Foundation Telethon. Steve has been an honorary life Rotarian since 1990 in recognition of his work for children with disabilities. His advocacy on behalf of members of the Canadian military members and their families, highlighted by his lead organizing a 15 thousand citizen strong Wear Red Fridays rally on Parliament Hill in 2007, includes his current role as advisor to the National Memorial Centre for deceased members of the forces and the RCMP.

Steve and his wife of 39 years are proud parents of three children, all born and raised in Ottawa – their eldest, Todd is a Trooper with the New York State Police, their daughter Samantha is a professional actress in Vancouver, and their youngest Zachary is an avid Double “A” Midget hockey goalie in Kanata.
