Women Ski Jumpers Lose Olympic Fight

British Columbia’s top court has dismissed an appeal by a group of female ski jumpers who wanted their sport included in the 2010 Olympics.

The women argued that being excluded from the Olympic Games violated their rights.

A three-member appeal panel says Vancouver has no say in the decision, which rests solely with the International Olympic Committee.

They ruled that the local organizing committee, VANOC, has no legal or practical power to add events to the Games, and therefore can't be held accountable.

The court dismissed the jumpers' case last week, but did not release any reasons for the unanimous decision until Friday.
