Gatti Widow gets $40,000 for Legal Fees

The battle over the estate of late boxing champion Arturo Gatti is heating up.

A judge in Quebec has awarded Gatti’s widow, Amanda Rodrigues, $40,000 to cover legal fees and child care costs. That’s not even close to the $150,000 advance she was asking for from the boxer’s estimated $6 milllion estate.

She may not get custody of the couple's dog, either. The judge ruled that that isn’t pertinent for now.

Gatti was found dead at a resort in Brazil last July. Police there had originally ruled the death a homicide, but later said it was a suicide.

The boxer's family wants the courts to annul his will, which was signed just three weeks before his death. They claim Rodrigues manipulated Gatti into leaving his entire fortune to her.

The judge urged both sides to talk.

Should there be an independent investigation of claims by Canadian Diplomat Richard Colvin that he told officials at Foreign Affairs and at least one General at National Defence about detainee torture in Afghanistan, but was told to stop talking and writing about it?
