A man has been found guilty in the shooting death of a northern Alberta RCMP officer.
Emrah Bulatci was convicted of first-degree murder in a Yellowknife court. He hung his head when the verdict was read.
In October of 2007, Constable Chris Worden was responding to a call in Hay River, Northwest Territories, when he was shot four times.
Bulatci testified that he was being chased on foot when he fired twice at the officer's legs. He says the two fatal shots were fired accidentally as the two men wrestled on the ground for control of the gun.
The Crown contended that Bulatci did intend to kill Worden because he continued to press the trigger and the gun went off twice.
Worden's death caused the olice force to review its procedures and staffing policy for small detachments.
