Afghan President Hamid Karzai suggests Afghan security forces should be able to take control of security in the next five years.
Karzai said Thursday Afghanistan’s security forces should now take the lead in tackling the insurgency.
Karzai was sworn in for a second five-year term as President during a ceremony in Kabul.
Karzai also addressed government corruption during his inauguration ceremony, saying officials who are corrupt should be “tried and prosecuted.” The newly re-elected President described corruption as a “dangerous enemy of the state.”
Karzai begins a second term facing an increasingly violent insurgency, an administration crippled by corruption, high unemployment and an impoverished population
